Testing days ?

August 10, 2008 by venami

Probably, I would have got it wrong…

After my college days, I am in my home (for a long time, for the first time, after my school days) waiting for my call letter from Cognizant, where I got my first job. Are these days my holidays ? Am I spending them usefully ? I think, yes…

In the starting days, I found myself happy, enjoying my moms food (my friends will know the taste of it :) really superb). Then slowly, loneliness caught my mind though I often use to ,essage my friends through my mobile phone. I found myself very boring :P

As days passed on, I started studying the books written by Dan Brown. I finished all of the four. Then, I spent my days with my school friend. I use to go to his home for helping him with my C knowledge ( dont try to question my knowledge in C, please :) ) and he will teach me some of the electrical concepts, sometimes basics. Days were fine till he got his job and departed from me.

Then, I started reading the books that I bought in Neyveli Book Fair, 2008. I really found nice ones during this first book fair for me.

After that, having waited for ample time, my parents ans relatives asked me to attend interviews for other companies, too. This which I hated first, slowly compromised my mind, and started studying Operating Systems. After thinking a lot, I decided to wait for Cognizant.

Then, with my dads force, I started taking treatment for my hair (probably, the persons who have seen me would have known the reason :) ). I really find this very useful, as I get a lot of ideas from the counsellings given to me… A separate post can only explain this… It will be better when you meet me in person, because it will be effective only when I speak to you.

My holidays will extend for around a month, I suppose :) . Meet you soon…

One night at Madurai streets

July 28, 2008 by venami

This is an incident which I never forget in my life… This is a real and really a long story…

It was during the end of my college as well as hostel days… In those days, I use to roam with my friend Jawahar Manoj in his bike. Though I have been in Madurai for 4 years, I never got used to roam in all the main streets of Madurai. So, me, Jawahar, Kaalimuthu, Sabari all decided to go on a night drive. We used our kosu’s TVS 50 (a jet machine :)) without saying him the purpose.

I was with Jawahar and Kaali was with Sabari in the jet :) . We dodged our hostel security officer after 9 pm as there is no permission for anyone to go out after 9. Firstly we started to a petrol bulk where we filled our tanks for our journey. On the way, we were traveling without a specific target. Our places were through Pasumalai, Bykkara, Periyar Nilayam, and the way to Maattu Thaavani where we decided to stop the journey.

On the way, we took many photos at various big hotels in Madurai, the parks, near temples, in front of all the cinema theaters, and on the left alone streets. There was no problem towards Maatu Thaavani… As we have no papers for the TVS 50, we were afraid of police at that time, and decided not to go to Maatu Thaavani. After reaching Pudhur, we had a tea time :) and decided to return. It was 2 pm then.

On our way to Periyar Nilayam, we met a group of policemen. They stopped our vehicles and inquired us. Already I had a sweat-wash in my face(As this is new to me :) ). Brilliantly, Sabari escaped us from the police and we saved our TVS 50 ;) Thinking we have escaped from the police, we started to the hostel with shivering hands :) .

I think it was a tragedy day for us :) . The next stop was in the Bykkara check post where another set of policemen stopped us for inquiry. As I was thinking that we wont escape from this second catch, Sabari again escaped the TVS 50 from the policemen, which must have been under trouble. As a turning point in the story, the Pulsar got caught for the case of over speed. The reason is that the police inspector who was on the spot tried to stop the pulsar, Jawahar went out of balance and stopped a few steps crossing the inspector. So, the inspector found a reason and caught us there :( .

Me and Sabari left the others in the spot and returned to TPK. No one of us had money with us, and also not ready to leave the vehicle under the police custody. We two went to the 24 hours shop in Thiruparankundram, where we would take snacks during the night time.

As we were speaking about the situation, the shopkeeper heard it and bullied himself in the scenario. He really offered an hundred rupees note to us for the fine. Sabari took the money to the checkpost and returned back to the shop, where I was waiting for him. After he came back, the shopkeeper again said that he knows a policeman. He called that policeman for us and asked him help for us. A few minutes back, a call came to him that my friends were rescued from the spot. Then we stayed there till 4 am in the morning and returned to hostel.

I will not forget this incident in my life… Do you believe that a shopkeeper, just hearing the speech between us, has given 100 rupees to us and asked us to return the next time we go there ? Also, do you believe a person helping an unknown person through his friendship with a policeman ? These prove that helping tendency has not yet found its grave in Our hearts :) .

Finally, we had our Kosu’s TVS 50 got escaped from the police inquiry :)

Aathaa, Naan Engineer aayittaen… :)

This was my first dialogue when I got my BE degree(Computer Science). Because I am the first graduate in my family.

Hard work for two years led me to join a better Engineering college in Tamil Nadu, whose name i really dont know till the day of the counselling :). Then, I got my favourite branch of Computer Science. I struggled a lot at the starting months, as I was from a rural background. Then I became somewhat stable in my studies and managed to learn a lot both mentally and technically.

I ever wont forget my college days, especially my hostel days, which made me learn lot of things from the surroundings, as well as from my friends and counterparts. :) I know that this is true for most of the college students :).

TecUthsav 2008

February 13, 2008 by venami

Atlast the days were over on which TCE was busy in conducting its technical festival, the first of its kind in its 50 years. The festival started on 10th with Online Programming Contest (OLPC) conducted by the Computer Science department. I have been a member to conduct OLPC along with my friends. The inaugural function was conducted on the first day and students from other colleges have started coming to Madurai to participate in the festival. The decoration all over the college was very beautiful than any other festivals conducted here.

The technical contests started from the next day starting with the Mechanical and Civil departments. The highlight of the the second day is the MecTracks, a car model contest where the students will present their own car models and participate in the race. There was a great welcome for that event.

The second day was followed by the events conducted by ECE, EEE and E&I departments. The third and the fourth day were the events conducted by the departments of CSE, IT and MCA. Though the responses were not so much expected, the events had their own standards. Especially the Lord of The Ring, a five stage event marked its position well. Got good feedback from the participants.

Finally, the TecUthsav 2008 was successful with OLPC, MecTracks and Lord of the Ring.

Will add the photos soon…

Gilli, the honest

Adam Gilchrist, the one who will be missed by Australian Cricket Board in few matches. ‘Gilli’, the way I usually call him as he is so good in his sport. He is a good player both as an opener and as a wicket keeper. He set a record of the most number of dismissals by a wicket keeper and also the one who scored more than 50 runs in all his World Cup Final matches.

He is famous for his favourite pull shot as well as his awesome dives behind the stumps. I think the ball likes him very much as it never misses his hands. :) The cricket ball will shed tears if it has eyes, he wont leave the ball without cracking it into pieces.

Adam Gilchrist

Though Australian players are famous for their sledging and aggressive sport, he is not so I think. The reason why I liked him the most is that he will be honest in the fields. Irrespective of the umpires’ decisions, he will go off the field if he knows that he was definitely out. This is the sportsmanship that many of the other Aussies should develop.

I really miss him a lot in the future Cricket :(

TCE towards Free and Open Source world

February 12, 2008 by venami

As a student of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, I feel proud to share one of the faces of TCE. This is the place where I learnt a lot from both my friends and the administration. I really feel proud to be exposed to the FOSS world, as I wont use any other OSes other than those come as Linux flavours.

Though the students in TCE were not aware of what FOSS is (which was before 5 years), there were a lot of contributions and developments in TCE towards FOSS. All the machines in the Centralized Computer Center in TCE has dual boot with Debian installed in them.

There is GNU/Linux Users Group Of TCE (glugot) where there are many active members and the students in TCE are conducting monthly meetings and are creating awareness among others. As a note of celebration of Software Freedom Day, which is celebrated all over the world, TCE celebrates its kind as FStival every year.

Also, seminars are being conducted in TCE for the past two years which was helpful to the students of TCE and the other participants from the outside. The alumni’s contribution in these events were awesome.

Also TCE has its own ERP named TCENet, which automates all the works related with the students like Attendance maintenance, Student Profile, Online Assignment, etc. totally of 24 modules. Then it has automated the college admission process by developing the application TAA as a part of TCENet. All these were developed by the students of TCE.

TCE also gave the products like Tuxedo, ijammer, Getez and contributed to FOSS world through their students. All the servers in TCE are Linux servers and they are all maintained by the students itself.

TCE has also won awards for them… Got the Best Innovative IT Implementation award of the Year 2007 from PCQuest. Also got the FOSS India awards for TCENet and GetEz.

“Innovation needs Freedom” and TCE is in its right path I suppose…

Twenty20 World Cup

September 24, 2007 by venami

After a 14 day firework, India become the champion of the Twenty20 Cricket history. Though she lacked ample experience in this category of Cricket, the captaincy and the team work made her lift the World cup.

I was damn confident on the victory over Pakistan … :) but my heart beat count increased during the last few overs of the final. Though Bajji and Sreesanth gave 3 and 2 sixes in their last overs, hope was there as there were only 2 wickets in hand. Once again, India won its match nail-bitting.

The reason for the Championship stands towards  Yuvraj Singh (for a good firework), MS Dhoni (good captaincy) and RP Singh (for his bowling, 12 wickets). MS Dhoni proved himself to be a good captain. It is pride to for India to lift the first Twenty20 World cup by defeating South Africa and Australia on its course of progression towards the final.

FStival’07
